About the Artist

Paints People Ponies and Pets
Joseph Sundwall is an accomplished painter of commissioned portraits, landscapes and sporting art (including Polo, Draft Horses and Horse Racing). Trained at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Art Students League (NYC), and St. Oswald’s Studios in London, he has won numerous awards for his paintings, and his works are found in fine collections both here and abroad.
Joseph's love of horses began in the early 2000's, when on a whim he attended his first polo match. He was impressed by the athleticism of both the horses and their riders, which led to more and more polo paintings, fox hunting works, flat track racing, draft horses, and paintings of other animals and birds. Since 2019 his polo paintings have been inspired by high stakes matches he attends at the Greenwich Polo Club and at the National Polo Grounds in Wellington FL.
Joseph is a member of the American Academy of Equine Art, Oil Painters of America, The National Oil and Acrylic Painters Assn., and The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists. His studio and gallery are located in the Regal Bag Building in Newburgh, New York.
